Gold Clover Tallow is quickly becoming a staff and customer fave at Eco Chic. This buttery cream literally melts into your skin and does wonders. I’ve been using it for about two months now and am so thrilled with how soft my skin is, how glowing my face is and how long this little 3 oz tub has lasted me! Owner of Gold Clover Tallow, Myriah, has been gracious enough to share with us exactly what is tallow and why it is so great for you!
You’re probably wondering what all the rage is about. Tallow? On your face? Wait… Is tallow what I think it is? Or maybe not. Can’t be. What is tallow?
Well, let me straighten some stuff out for you. Tallow is very much an animal product. Tallow ultimately comes from the fat that is located around the kidneys of a cow!!!!! It starts off as suet and is rendered down through a heating and straining process that removes any traces of meat and residue. The final product is tallow, a hard, minimally odored, wax-like (if purified enough times) substance that “magically” soaks into your skin as if the two were made for each other. We purchase our organic, grassfed suet from a meat company on the coast of California (about 3 hours from here), then we make the tallow ourselves, as we’ve gotten the best quality this way. Then, in order for it to be even remotely spreadable, we add organic oils (skin friendly) to it to soften it up, and essential oils for their additional health properties and fantastic smell. Then, to be even more awesome (always striving for the best), we use glass jars! Our product comes in glass. No chemical leaching there. It’s very important to us to be as toxin-free as possible, so we have searched high and low to be able to accomplish this.
I have been making tallow balm for just shy of 2 years now. It began as a quest to find something that would help my 2 year old daughter’s skin. She had head to toe eczema that left her in bloody sheets every night, countless scabs, and non-stop scratching. And we tried EVERYTHING that anyone recommended out of desperation to make her feel better. We were told to bathe her in bleach water, put her to sleep in wet pajamas, vaseline, “miracle” bath soap 3 times a day, creams, and so much more. She stopped eating dairy and citrus and anything acidic. I’m not one to jump straight to modern medicine for things that I think can be fixed otherwise, but I even stooped to using a friend’s prescription steroid cream because it was literally the only thing that legitimately helped. But I know it’s not good and can thin your skin and push the condition deeper into the body, only to erupt at a later time….. Her pediatrician scolded us big-time on that… Whoops. Anyway, hours of research later and I began hearing buzz about how amazing tallow is for skin and eczema. My wheels started turning and thus began my journey of making tallow balm.
I gave away a few jars to my sisters and it really took off from there. They needed refills, I needed to sell the extra off because the batch was too much to hold onto. So, I posted on a local Facebook page to gauge interest and got 80 pre-orders overnight, needing only 6 people to make it “worth my time”. People fell in love with how their skin felt. I immediately had 80% repeat customers gushing over how amazing it was and how their face had never looked or felt better. People with oily skin were telling me that their skin was now normal. People with clogged pores were telling me how their blackheads had vanished in a week’s time. People with rashes were telling me how within just hours of applying my tallow balm, their skin looked perfectly normal. Needless to say, I was pretty shocked myself. I had no idea that any of this was possible or that I would be the one to introduce so many to something that could, quite literally, change their life.
I have fallen in love with being able to help people in this way. Our skin is our largest organ, and it’s very important that we nourish it with something that is not going to harm us in the longterm. I don’t want toxins in my body or my children’s bodies. And I’m so happy to say that toxin-laden products do NOT have to be the superior product that “actually works, so oh well if it’s full of junk”. Tallow balm absolutely works. And it is junk-free.
Here are just a few glowing testimonials I’ve received over the past year that, to me, really highlight the versatility of my tallow balm:
“So I wanted to tell you about my surprising results of almost a week using the tallow balm! After a couple days in a started to notice that my skin seemed to be cleaning out my pores…literally I would touch my face and little pieces of grit would be on my face. I would look in the mirror and it’s basically pore junk. My t zone has dried out. My t zone is never dry. I have uber oily skin. Now my skin is not even oily. No. Joke. I was like what the what? Normally it’s an oil slick by midafternoon. Not even before I go to bed. Or when I wake up in the morning usually it’s a grease bomb. Not so anymore! It’s so weird. Pleasantly weird. My t zone is dry enough that is has some shedding like skin – but I think it’s all regulating. Almost like my skin is cleaning itself out and the oil glands are adjusting.” – Amy M.
“My sons hands were purple from eczema. We had tried every lotion and it would almost heal, but if we weren’t faithful with it, it would take 7-10 days. We used the tallow balm (lavender) and I believe after three days his skin looked perfect! We applied it just two times a day. We have also used it for diaper rash with similar results.” – Kathryn N.
“I love the balm, it’s the best thing I’ve found for my dry cracked heels since I wear flip flops every day! I LOVE that it’s all natural and scented with essential oils. The “face” scent is my favorite. I also use it on my daughter who has mild eczema and it helps keep her skin moisturized. I definitely recommend it!” – Jasmine M.
